McCain Gains 1% In Nationwide Polls

John McCain tightened the race by 1% in nationwide polls, but Barack Obama is still ahead with support of 50% or above in six top tracking polls. (TPM)

Gallup: Obama 51%, McCain 44%, with a ±2% margin of error, compared to a 53%-43% Obama lead from yesterday, a 3% gain for McCain.

Rasmussen: Obama 51%, McCain 46%, with a ±2% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.

ABC/Washington Post: Obama 52%, McCain 45%, with a ±3% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.

Hotline/Diageo: Obama 50%, McCain 42%, with a ±3.3% margin of error, unchanged from yesterday.

Research 2000: Obama 50%, McCain 43%, with a ±3% margin of error, compared to a 50%-42% Obama lead yesterday, a 1% gain for McCain.

Zogby: Obama 49%, McCain 45%, with a ±2.9% margin of error, compared to a 50%-45% Obama lead from yesterday, a 1% loss for Obama.

Adding these polls together and weighting them (by the square roots of their sample sizes to give more credence to larger polls), Obama is ahead 50.6%-44.4%, a lead of 6.2 points, compared to his 51.2%-44.0%, 7.2 point lead from yesterday. (TPM)
