NYC Council Extends Term Limits

The New York City Council voted 29-22 to extend term limits for city elected officials from two terms to three. An amendment calling for a public referendum on the issue failed by 28-22, with one abstention. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city needs him to serve a third term to help navigate the financial crisis. (NYT)
