Racist Groups Less Active Than Feared In Election

Organized hate groups have been more quiet in this election than many observors feared, given the ascendency of Sen. Barack Obama, according to monitoring groups. (NYT) Such groups continue to exist. E.g., the neo-nazi American National Socialist Workers Party planned to distribute 20,000 copies of their latest magazine — with a cover photo of Obama in a rifle’s crosshairs and the large-type headline: “Kill This Nigger?”  But their party head, Bill White, was recently jailed on suspicion of making threats against a juror (who had helped convict a white supremacist of plotting to kill a federal judge). The party’s website was closed and their computers seized.
