Sen. Barack Obama’s public service brought him into contact with a University of Illinois professor, Bill Ayers, who in the 1960s engaged in violent bombings as a member of the Weathermen.  The New York Times concludes that Obama has never expressed sympathy for the “detestable acts” of Mr. Ayers. The connection is likely to receive increased attention as Republican strategists prepare a newly aggressive assault on Obama’s personal associations, judgment, and honesty. (Washington Post)
