First Google Phone Ships Ahead Of Schedule
G1, the first phone using the Google-sponsored open-source operating system named Android, is already shipping and may hit stores tomorrow, five days ahead of schedule. (Boy Genius Report)
The G1 is the sum of three parts: Google software, HTC handset and the T-Mobile network.
Reviewers have had their hands of the devices for at least a week. Here’s what some of them are saying:
“For corporate mobile administrators, I would recommend waiting—until the bugs are fixed, until more corporate features and applications come out, and until more models are available. Companies considering Android adoption should start their internal development programs, however.” (Andrew Garcia, eWEEK)
“Android [software] itself is very successful. Clearly, th
ere’s a sizable audience for phones that have the touchy, easy-to-navigate fun of an iPhone, without such an extreme philosophy of feature minimalism. If that’s you, then you should welcome the Android era with open eyes and ears.” (David Pogue, New York Times)
“Overall, the G1 is a very good first effort, and a godsend for people who prefer physical keyboards or T-Mobile but want to be part of the new world of powerful pocket computers.” (Walter Mossberg, All Things Digital)
