Boeing Strike Cramps Q3 Deliveries

Boeing delivered just 84 aircraft in the third quarter, down from 109 in the year-earlier quarter, due to a job action by nearly 27,000 machinists. Before the strike, the aerospace giant had been on pace to deliver 108 units for the quarter. (Aviation Week)

The International Association of Machinists, which is Boeing’s largest union, has been on strike sinceĀ  September 6, and it is unclear when the strike will end. When production does resume, the machinists will be busy: Boeing’s order backlog as of August was 3,696 planes, or seven years worth of production. One more bit of good news: Boeing Chief Executive Officer Jim McNerney is being quoted as telling employees that the company has as yet seen “little to no impact” from the turmoil in world financial markets. Boeing rival Airbus reports its September deliveries on Tuesday.
